Building the Skills for the Future of Belizeโs Financial Services Sector
Finance Belize, in partnership with the Belize Policy Research Institute at the University of Belize (BELPRI-UB), officially launched the national Human Capital Skills Assessment Report for the Financial Services Sector on Friday 28 August 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the University of Belize Conference Centre in Belmopan City.
Titled ๐๐ฌ๐ช๐ญ๐ญ๐ด ๐๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฌ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ๐ค๐ฆ ๐๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ถ๐ข๐ค๐บ: ๐๐ท๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ ๐ง๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฎ ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ช๐ป๐ฆโ๐ด ๐๐ช๐ฏ๐ข๐ฏ๐ค๐ช๐ข๐ญ ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ท๐ช๐ค๐ฆ๐ด ๐๐ฆ๐ค๐ต๐ฐ๐ณ, the report provides evidence-based insights into employers’ present and anticipated workforce requirements, including demand for technical and soft skills, graduate readiness, training and certification needs, recruitment challenges, and opportunities for stronger collaboration between industry and academia.
Authored by Dr. Andrew Trumbach, Mr. Hero Balani and Ms. Emily Jaramillo, the report was developed through a national survey of 48 firms and institutions across Belizeโs financial services sector, with responses representing a broad cross-section of the industry including banks, credit unions, moneylenders, insurance companies, law firms, registered agents and government regulators among others.
The launch brought together representatives from government, regulators, the private sector and academia for a presentation of the findings and a timely “Strategic Dialogue on the Future of Financial Services Skills in Belize.” The discussion identified the need to better align courses offered by tertiary level institutions and training bodies with employer needs. The dialogue also explored practical areas of partnership with the private sector such as apprenticeships, internships, and other avenues of training and professional development.
