Belize Hosts Financial Services Seminar in Taiwan

Day 1 of the Belize-Taiwan Financial Services Technical Mission started on a strong and productive note with an opening meeting with the General Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China (Taiwan) ROCCOC.

The Belize delegation had the opportunity to meet with Chairman Mr. Paul Hsu, accompanied by H.E. Katherine Meighan, Ambassador of Belize to the Republic of China (Taiwan), to exchange perspectives on strengthening economic and financial services cooperation between our two jurisdictions.

During the discussion, several areas of collaboration were explored, particularly opportunities to deepen engagement between Belize’s financial services ecosystem and Taiwan’s private sector associations, with a view toward fostering partnerships, knowledge exchange, and investment linkages.

The Belize delegation includes representatives from: Finance Belize, Financial Services Commission (FSC) Belize, Belize Companies and Corporate Affairs Registry (BCCAR), International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize (IMMARBE), Belize High Seas Fisheries (BHSFU).

This mission reflects Belize’s continued commitment to expanding international partnerships and positioning Belize as a modern, compliant, and competitive financial services center.

We look forward to the remaining meetings and engagements scheduled throughout the week and to a productive mission that further strengthens the longstanding partnership between Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The Seminar forms part of the Belize-Taiwan Financial Services Technical Mission (9–13 March 2026), co-organized with the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Belize, the Embassy of Belize in the Republic of China (ROC) Taiwan, and coordinated in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. The technical mission focuses on strengthening institutional linkages and advancing technical exchange in key areas, including regulation, fintech, and financial infrastructure.

Key objectives of this engagement include:

● Strengthening bilateral technical cooperation and institutional partnerships in financial services;
●  Exchanging best practices in regulation, supervision, and market development;
●  Promoting Belize’s financial services value proposition and investment opportunities to Taiwanese stakeholders; and
●  Supporting ongoing dialogue on the modernization of enabling frameworks, including the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) and Double Taxation Agreement (DTA), currently under discussion.

The mission is expected to result in deeper institutional collaboration, the development of strategic partnerships, increased private-sector investment engagement, and expanded cross-border trade in financial services. These efforts support Belize’s long-term objective of strengthening its position as an attractive and competitive financial hub within Central America and the Caribbean.
